Art Collective WA presents the next instalment of Collective Conversations, our recorded artist interview series. This session features Merrick Belyea and George Haynes in conversation with fellow painter Paul Uhlmann.
Held alongside their current exhibitions, 'Saturn Eats His Own: Pilbara Paintings' and ‘Skyland', the discussion will centre on these two distinct approaches to landscape painting. Merrick will reflect on his Pilbara works, developed following a recent Minderoo Foundation residency, and how ideas of place, extraction and mythology shape his practice. George will speak to his recent works, capturing the restless movement of land and sky and encouraging a slower, more attentive way of looking.
The artists will open out a broader conversation on landscape as a genre and its evolving possibilities.
