For Melbourne Art Fair 2026, Art Collective WA proudly presents a solo exhibition by Vanessa Russ, a Ngarinyin/Gija woman from the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
Vanessa's powerful new work captures the drama and intimacy of Kimberley skies and waterways, traversing from Broome to Derby. Working in ink on paper and charcoal, Vanessa evokes the charged atmosphere of storms breaking over Country – the weight of cloud, the sudden sweep of rain, the restless horizon. These works are at once delicate and powerful, translating her deep, place-based knowledge into marks that carry memory and belonging to place. The exhibition invites audiences into a profound encounter with landscape as spirit and story, articulated through her contemporary practice.
