ARTIST TALK // FRIDAY 16 JUNE, 2PM - COUNCIL HOUSE
Tony Windberg restages his epic exhibition, Wonders of the Worlds, at Council House, Perth. Previously exhibited at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries and Albany Town Hall, this is a great opportunity for city audiences to view this fascinating body of work that combines images of antiquity with scenes of the pristine landscapes of Mars.
Roman ruins, Greek temples, the Pyramids and Petra - are resurrected from black and white photographs of century old volumes of Wonders of the Past. These combine with scenes of a wild terrain of sand and stone, a new frontier, the pristine landscapes of Mars.
Tony's innovative use of materials and techniques connects the artworks to his subject through a mix of traditional and non-conventional art materials. Iron oxides reflect the rusty hues of Mars, chalk and marble dust the limestone temples and pyramids. Surfaces and textures are methodically built up then ‘weathered’ to suggest the passage of time.
Art Collective WA at Council House, City of Perth (Corner St George's Terrace and Barrack Street, across the road from St George's Cathedral and the Art Collective WA gallery). Open Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm. Free entry.
