Drawing on her Greek, Czech, and Australian heritage, Olga Cironis' practice investigates notions of belonging, identity and cultural globalisation. In her solo exhibition, Hope, for Melbourne Art Fair 2025, Cironis weaves together layers of research, collected stories and muted voices to reckon with our shared histories of loss, hope and resilience. Central to the exhibition is Noise in This Silence, an installation of violins enveloped in grey institutional blankets, much like those used in wartime Europe. The work explores the depths of our personal and collective wounds, symbolising the silencing of grief and the stark imperative to protect what is invisible to the eye. Alongside is a series of photography, sculpture and text-based installations which invite the viewer to question our social and environmental connections, and the gender and social norms that permeate our culture. With its haunting beauty and poetic resonance, Hope offers a moment to pause and reflect on the delicate balance of sorrow and strength, past and future, individual and collective experience.
