Kevin Robertson, Scene 6, 2026, oil on linen, 152.5 x 152.5cm
Kevin Robertson’s recent series of large-scale paintings are based on direct observation of figures combined with images drawn from art museums, figurines and trophies. These are then recast into new environments, resulting in psychological scenes of dream-like states.
Through the use of intense colour, states of ambiguity, doubt and confusion emerge in a way that is not pessimistic but rather finds beauty in these enigmatic conditions. The unusual combinations of things, noted for their unexpected pleasure, occupy charged colour spaces.
