Cathy Blanchflower's first exhibition as an Art Collective WA member showcases her extraordinary signature works. Organic abstract paintings which explore colour, light and movement to create shifting and intangible spaces. They search for a feeling or presence which cannot be painted directly, but rather revealed within layers and visible structures of paint.

'I am a painter working with loose organic patterns which explore the use of colour, movement, space and light. My current use of colour comes mostly from what I observe in the natural environment. The patterns I use are boundless and can be perceived to continue beyond the frame suggesting unending repetitions of infinite nature and streams of consciousness. Elements in the work recall perceptions, memories, sounds, music and visual information that is broken down and translated into a concentrated visual language. The process of layering patterns or fields of colour enables me to find an ‘in-between space’ created by the reaction of each layer to the other. This space is intangible and unpredictable, only emerging when the layers are in harmony with each other – in an attempt to find a balance between order and disorder, stillness and movement and a micro and macro view of the world.'
