'A Gentle Misinterpretation' is the catalogue published for the exhibition of the same name curated by Andrew Nicholls, which was based on residencies in Brighton UK and presented at Fremantle Arts Centre in August to October 2022.
The 145-page book includes texts by Andrew Nicholls, Glenn Iseger-Pilkington, Nicola Coleby and the exhibiting artists.
'A Gentle Misinterpretation - Australian Artists and Chinoiserie' brought together a group of 13 Australian artists, inspired by the cultural effect and meaning behind the ‘Chinoiserie' tradition from the 17th century, up until the 1920s in the Western world.
