The most recent recipient for the City of Joondalup's Inside-Out Billboard Project is member of Art Collective WA Sarah Elson.
The work, titled Hymenosporum - after the seeds are shed, Sarah says, 'is a work that evolved as a cast from a native frangipani seed pod. It was surrounded in wax and then cast in a silver copper alloy. The metal form was then forged and coloured with a heat patina.'
The digital representation of this commissioned artwork is displayed on a 3 metre x 6 metre commercial billboard on the external west-facing wall of the Joondalup Library.
Each artwork is displayed for six months, then later displayed on a second billboard at the Joondalup Courthouse.
Previous commissioned artists include Art Collective members Helen Smith and Angela Stewart, as well as Chloe Tupper, Christophe Canato, Eric Hynynen, Amy Perejuan-Capone, Julian Tennant, Andy Quilty, Judy Rogers, and Dita E Hagedorn.
Sarah Elson's next exhibition will open on 6 July 2019 at our Art Collective WA gallery in Cathedral Square. Showing until 3 August. Andre Lipscombe will engage Sarah in a discussion about her work on Saturday 20 July at 2pm, in the gallery, as part of our Collective Conversations - to be published later as podcasts. All welcome.
