City of Cockburn Honours Artists with Inaugural Hall of Fame Induction

Three leading figures in Western Australian art – Jane Martin, George Haynes, and Trevor Vickers – have been inducted into the City of Cockburn’s inaugural Arts Hall of Fame. The late Ruth Vickers, a respected textile artist and lecturer, was also posthumously inducted, recognising her enduring influence and contribution.

The honour was announced during a civic ceremony at Memorial Hall in Hamilton Hill, where 16 artists were recognised for their lasting impact on the region’s creative identity.

Jane, George, Trevor, and Ruth each maintained active studios within Cockburn for decades. Their inclusion reflects a legacy of dedication to art-making and a broader commitment to fostering artistic exchange within the community.

Mayor Logan Howlett described the Hall of Fame as a celebration of local creative talent and a step forward in recognising the arts as essential to civic life. The initiative forms part of the City of Cockburn’s ongoing cultural strategy, with commemorative plaques to be installed at Memorial Hall and updates scheduled every three years.
